Been pretty quiet about my bees

I have had an issue with my City Council. I just did NOT feel up to talking yet.

Middle of October I got a citation stating my bees were not allowed under "nuisance" ordinance as a danger to the public. I was NOT in a good mood! After all my research and talking to people NOW they say I can't have them! After a full summer!

So I request a hearing. And wait for a date, and wait. Week yesterday (Oct 28), After two weeks, I go to City Hall. 'Why do I not have a hearing date?" "oh you do, it is Nov 4" Remember I have been THREE WEEKS worrying!

So last Friday I FINALLY get a letter from city lawyer. States the date (finally a notice! Of three days!) and that if found a "nuisance" the city will take immediate action!

Crap! In other words if I lose I get a FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR FINE IMMEDIATELY! And they get someone to clear out my bees AND I GET CHARGED FOR IT!

So yesterday morning my ladies go on vacation! Out to the country 15 miles away! They can't get them there lol..

And as being attitudinal, I set up my nuc box in the same spot my hive was! If they want to give me a ticket for that I get to win in court rofl...jerks!

7pm..off to hearing I go. Sit and chat, after all, went to school, hubby works with, or kids had as teacher, or a cousin with all council members Rofl..I felt it was important to smooze!

First words, What do you want to say? (*&*&^*& ..no I did NOT say it rofl...

First sentence I said "First I want to know what you definition as "danger to public is"? Silence....uh oh..not good I thought! So I start my spiel. Honeybees don't attack like yellow jackets (we have lots of those!) or bumble bees. They won't chase you down! THEY DEFEND..

Next issue ...stings..has anyone been stung in your yard this year? NO, and on I go with the " hubby 10ft away in sandals, shorts, tank top while I tear hive down completely for Aug. inspection. WITH NO STINGS!

Got their attention!

To make a long nerve racking story short, I WON! Ok..I won stage one! Bees are NOT to be considered under "nuisance" ordinance

They are now looking into other city ordinances! And they asked if I would be interested in giving some info! OH yea Oh yea! rock on

NOT going to forget that they could still ban, but looking good!

But my ladies will be on vacation in the country till something is definite.
I will keep my nuc box up so they will not think I am giving up!rofl

Oh and the "complaint" that someone did that started it? One of the council was really ticked the person did NOT show up! She kept at it as a "spite complaint"! She was very verbal about it! Maybe that helped!

Chief of police said there was one other incident that they made them get rid of the bees. But they never asked for a hearing so it never went before the council so no "precedent" was set. Score one!

This is the condensed version lol....

BabyLove doing good

Baby is doing better than she has in a while! She is eating again. And takes care of teaching Loki NOT to pick on a bigger cat. lol..

She does tend to want attention more than she used to. But she is back to smacking anyone going past the chair if she hasn't been fed. She doesn't have many teeth now so it is two cans of wet food a day.
I think the long acting antibiotic they gave her worked better on that cyst than the daily. Of course it might be because THIS vet cleaned it up, the other one kept just would remove the scab.

So she is doing really well for turning 13 this month!
Her eye will always be a little funky.. It doesn't look like this now but the pupil doesn't dialate very well, making her balance a little off. Mostly when she is jumping on or off stuff.

Misc Loki

Loki isn't to sure about the outside! This is the ferret harness, a little insecurely fastened for a kitty.
She got a new one of her own now. I will have to get a pic of it.

Loki loves to give Mommy kitty kisses...

Supervising my sewing and making sure Danny stays seated.

A towel in the sink. Her favorite spot. Loki is going through Litterbox 101. So her main room is the bathroom if now one is keeping an eye on her. So far, litterbox 1.5-Loki .5 ....she pees in the litter and MOST the time in the box. But at least she does it in the bathtub! Not on the living room carpet.

                                               Watching "Beverly Hills Chihuahua III"

As with any kitten, she is fascinated by the computer curser!

She went to sitting right in the middle of Daddy's desk lol..

Slippers!

We all need new slippers..so out came the pattern I found an liked the looks of. I like to have my ankle covered. The pattern is NOT the best but is awesomely easy and good for now! So sew I will do!

My first try..A little snug if I am wearing socks but awesome to slip on! I did NOT wash the material though lol. So I will make another pair slightly larger, with washed material, and put rubber backing on them for non slipping. then I will wash these and put backing on them. IF they don't shrink to much!

And yes, they have Abby's mukluk approval!

The boys are asking where theirs are lol. So washing material this evening and sewing tomorrow..well I hope.

Fleece inner layer with flannel outer layer. I have noticed I will need to put SOMETHING on the bottoms for sure. Flannel doesn't wear well on the bottom. Wonder how it would work with jean denim, might try that with the boys.

Serger

I have always wanted one! I believe I will use it a lot. Once I learn how to use it lol...I will save a lot of time finishing the seams at least.
It is a Singer Finishing Touch. Quite a difference from a sewing machine! Whole new learning curve!

Halloween is finally over

No I did NOT get a single doll dress done that I had planned! Life sure gets busy! In October, two weeks of camping, week of being sick, other sewing needed done. Dolls definitely low on list lol..

Boys LOVED trick or treating! Connie has a new job so she wasn't able to go with us this year. She was really upset. But Heather and I had a good time with them despite rain. It wasn't but a little chilly so we really were not happy about the rain but the Goddess knows what is best for nature.

My Aunt Laura had made them up their own bags! Thanks for making their night awesomely special!

                                                                    Danny's bag,

                                                                        Alex's bag,

This was JUST from my aunt!

Because it was raining and because my aunt is so awesomely awesome the boys did not even fuss once at only going out for an hour!

Lesson Learned

Oh my, lol, did I goof last week!

When I made Alex's sleep pants Heather called and said they were huge. Then she said she washed the material and the fit perfect.

So I proceeded to make him a pair of pants from some blue twill I bought the week before. I made patch pockets to put on the outside of the lower leg. I made an elastic waist. I messed up and cut the pants too short so I made them different, added some material to the bottom like some of his store bought pants.

He tried them on. THEY WERE HUGE!!!!

ROFLMAO!! I forgot we washed the material first this time! So the pants are in the box for NEXT year!

I bought enough to make about 4 pair for him and a couple for Danny so no shortage of material. Next time I will take each section in 1/2" and shorten the waist 2" and hem them up another 1". I still want to make the legs like I did those by accident! And I think I will make the pocket bigger. I used the measurements from one of Danny's pairs so they really could be bigger for Alex.

Live and learn. Ok..sew and make mistakes! Will happen all my life...at least this one wasn't a failure! Just a start on NEXT winter's clothes lol....

I really liked how they turned out though!!

Ramblings

I haven't really written much this month I know.

Been an up and down month!

Went on vacation (ok, camping right outside of town) but still have the boys routine to follow. Started Camping on the 1st. Then on the 6th we got notice that we had to get rid of the bee hives! I filed an appeal for a hearing on the 16th but not heard yet when. I have to get rid of the bees by the 27th so the better hurry up! If I don't hear from them by the time the mail goes on Friday I will be at city hall demanding an extension.

Heather is looking into getting a mortgage for an acreage now. She is really ticked. So we may be moving in the spring. We are all just tired of all the ordinances. We can get mauled by a pitbull now but we need protection from the little bees. We'll see what happens.

Pajama Pants

Was on vacation. I WAS going to sew doll Halloween dresses.
But I decided the boys needed their pajama pants worse.

Heather had bought two pairs of each, Mario and Angry Birds, sleep pants in men’s size small. She got them on clearance for $3 each. I thought I could make a pair for the boys one out of each. Nope, didn’t work that way. The men’s had the plackets in front for laziness, so after cutting them out the pattern didn’t fit those sections.

So Danny got Mario, Alex got Angry Birds, and NaNa got tired of sewing for the day lol…

Actually I only sewed for about 3 hrs a day while Danny was in school. I made the patterns from sleep pants that still fit the boys. So one pattern made for each boy. Grrr… I hate making patterns lol. But I can use the patterns to make them more now. It had been a long time since I had made a pattern off bought clothes. I had bought a new mat to try this time. I loved how I could pin everything to the cardboard! It really made it faster and easier.

It usually took about two days for each pattern and two days for each pair of pants. Cause I had other things to do in those three hours also lol…

For $6 they each have a new pair of jamma pants they love!

BabyLove

Baby is doing better. Left eye still funky, wobbly on her feet. She wants held all the time.

Danny helped watch over her today.

Boys are little HEATHENS

For crying outloud! Boys are little HEATHENS! Shut the finger in the car door...days later have to go have it drained...doctor gave him a choice two days ago...splint or drain...he picked the splint..NO choice today!

He says it was worth it! After a lollypop, cookie, and ice cream he says he would do it again! **facepalm**

BabyLove had a stroke

I got up this morning and Baby was NOT well. She was listing to the left, not supporting herself at all, head hanging down, not looking right in the eyes.

Oh my...NOT cool! Our vet (2 min) would "try" to work her in about 11:30 ..they were busy with COWS.

Called back up vet in Corydon (17 miles)....vets out with COWS. Fuck the cows my cat is dying!

Called a vet in Knoxville (30 miles) and they could get her in before I could even get there!

Yup a little stroke. By then she was doing a little better...very wobbly but was walking and had ate.

Doc gave her antibiotics for the cyst that NEVER heals, long lasting so I don't have to give her more.
Cortisone for the dizziness. And treated for fleas...duh...I was treating the kitten but never thought of her giving them to BabyLove! Bad mommy :(

He did blood work cause she is so old...13 yrs come November. Everything looks great! Well other than what the infection was messing up.

Back home..she is resting a lot...making dogs leave her alone.

I was soo scared I was gonna lose her. She was cuddled in my arms for about 1/2 hr this morning before we left..she doesn't usually cuddle...lay on your lap, not cuddle under your neck!

She is better. Now to make her STAY better!

Boys a safe table

Asked Ben if it would be possible to switch tops from the boys new table to the old frame. Because the new frame is messed up and I am afraid they will get hurt on it. “Sure I don’t see why not. I’ll see what I can do”. A MONTH AGO!!!

24 screws out, 12 screws in
Safe table for two little boys….Is that so fucking hard to do? 10 mins..and that included going out to get the old table and getting the screw driver out of the drawer...

Now to take out staples and pop out 12 rovers and recover with car track material…recycling, reusing, reworking…stuff I am good at. Boys will have a safe table and a car track for camping play…win win..as long as I do it myself … teach me to get too dependent on a man…

6 million staples … 12 rivets later…KMA….I’ll do it myself…half hour, start to finish, now on to the fun stuff…
Too late to start it now but will cover it tomorrow...or over the weekend..depends...on ....life.. lol...vacation starts on Monday and I do want them to have it to play on at the campgrounds.
