Butterfly from August

Sun Aug 04, 2013
Heather found this on her almost decimated parsley this morning. Now in a jar with some parsley to make a pupa...

Did this a couple of years ago with a buckeye. I enjoy them learning this way. Danny was really upset that I took his caterpillar lol..

A beautiful butterfly greeted us this morning.

Alex and Danny got to see it sitting out warming up in the sun before they left for first day of school year! Science lesson in real life!

Shorts into purse

Oh my gosh! Sometimes I amaze myself, rofl...

Over a month ago my granddaughter (14) asked me if I would turn a couple of little pairs of shorts into purses. Of course, I said yes! I have a hard time telling my only granddaughter no! And no I did NOT tell her I had never done it before, rofl..
I told her I would get them done before school started...but nope didn't get to it.
Today I did. And of course I picked the one pair that I had no idea how I was gonna make a strap for it!
But got the purse part made. I thought well heck I would make a belt for it and think about a strap later. DUH! I made a strap like the belt! And left it in two parts so she can tie it the length she wants!
I think it needs a snap to keep it from gapping open but no problem, I have them!

And I even lined it!

Jenny if you don't want this, hun, I'll keep it and use it myself! Rofl..

Update on the Bee Hive

My bees no likey me today lol..I did a complete inspection. Hotter than blazes! 91° and humid with a light breeze. But we are looking at a chance of rain tomorrow and then turning hotter! I needed to see what my bees were doing.

Ben sat out there and wrote the notes as I hollered them at him. He is such a good sport!
So I have a frame by frame note of what is going on inside my hive.

I have 1.6 medium supers of honey and several frames of brood and honey. They still have a few frames to build comb on. So I don't think I will feed this fall. Still about 4/5 weeks to go.

I had a few frames that just looked like they were empty, but I could not look close cause my glasses were fogged with sweat lol.. So I took a picture of one of them.

Surprise!

This...

Shows up as eggs...

And larvae...

And lots of frames that look like this....

Changed out my top super for one with a hole for a top entrance. With the weather we have and the chance of getting a couple of feet of snow like usual, I decided to go with top entrance in the winter.

And frames of honey are HEAVY! Makes for heavy supers lol..
I also changed the large concrete blocks on the top of the ant tray with smaller ones. The hive would be way to tall for a 5'2" shorty to lift off full supers!
